Kafni Glacier trek is an excellent glacier trek with full of excitement and beautiful landscapes. It is one of the best glacier trek in the Kumaon Himalayas, where you can go up to the glacier with ease compared with other glacier treks. The Kafni Glacier is adjacent to the Pindari Glacier, lies east-west to the Nandakot in Kumaon Himalayas. Kafni glacier trek offers various trekking features like river valley, apricot forest, rare birds, dozens of waterfall, meadows, remote villages, snow-packed mountains, and thrilling experiences of walking on temporary wooden bridges.

Itinerary For Kafni Glacier Trek

  • Day 1:
  • Kathgodam to Kharkiya
  • 210 Km
  • 8 Hrs

We will reach Kharkiya Village today. It is a long 210km drive from Kathgodam. In the drive route, you will see many famous places like Bhimtal lake, which is a well known beautiful lake in Uttarakhand, and the heritage cities Almora and Bageshwar.

We will try to reach Kharkiya as soon as possible. We need to cover 6km trekking to reach Khati Village. Khati is a beautiful village and rich in culture. Overnight stay will be in the lodge/Homestay at Khati village.
Meals: Dinner.
Night: Overnight stay in lodge/homestay.

  • Khati to Dwali
  • 14 Km
  • 8 Hrs

After breakfast, we will start trekking towards Dwali. We will pass through dense forests, encounter wildlife ( including birds, languor, pheasants, etc.), bridges, thrilling ride on temporary wooden bridges made by shepherds/local villagers. You will be amazed by dozens of beautiful waterfalls ( especially a waterfall at Maliadhaur ), meadows, and you will witness the scenic beauty of the Pindar Valley. We will stay at Dwali, based at the confluence of Kafni and Pindar river.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Night: Overnight stay in lodge.

  • Dwali to Bayala

  • 5 Hrs

We will have some breakfast in the morning, after that, we will be heading towards the Bayala campsite, which is at a 10 km distance from the Dwali. The trail goes through the dense forest, riverside, and meadows. There is a broken trail after the forest, which can be hard to find the alternative path. You might not get any accommodation after Dwali because of lack of the tourist, and the broken trail, guest house in Khatia and Bayala is closed often. Therefore, for all these reasons, you need proper guidance and camping in this trek.

  • Bayala to Kafni to Dwali

Today is the day for the Kafni Glacier. The source of the Kafni river, which is the tributary of the Pindari River. It’s a two-kilometer trekking from Bayala campsite. We will stay there for a few moments, after that we will go back to the Dwali.

Night: Overnight stay in lodge/tents.

After breakfast, we will trek to the Khati village. It’s 14 km of trekking today.

  • Kharkiya to Kathgodam
  • 210 Km

Trek for 6 km from Khati to Kharkiya, then with memories of the Kafni Glacier trek, we will depart from Kharkia to Kathgodam.
Meals: Breakfast.
Night: Nill.
