According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma did penance on the banks of the Brahmatal lake for several years, due to which it was named Brahmatal.
Mid-January to Mid-February might be the best time to get heavy snow on the Brahmatal Trek.
During winters, the temperature range near Brahmatal Lake at night is -1°C to -5°C in November-December, March-April. It can reach from -5°C to -15°C in January-February.
Brahmatal Trek is an easy to moderate trek in other seasons and moderate to difficult in winters.
If you plan to go as a solo or self-managed group, it will be a moderate to difficult level trek in all seasons. It is because, after Mundoli, you will not get any village or food facilities. There are some shepherds in Tilandi Bugyal and Brahmatal Bugyal in pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons. There is no guarantee they provide food due to having limited resources. So, you have to carry tents, sleeping bags, and food on your own.
In winter, there are many trek organizers available for the Brahmatal Trek. You can arrange your needs with only local organizers. Also, you will get some temporary hotels on the trek. The locations of hotels are Mundoli village, Khopdedha (Bekaltal Campsite), and Jhandi Top. Brahmatal is 3 km away from Jhandi Top. You can camp here and go to Brahmatal Lake and come back. But there is no water source near Jhandi Top. Therefore you need to carry water along with you.
No, it is a freshwater lake. A small water stream emerges from one side above the lake and passes through the opposite side of the lake.
Usually, It is a four days trek. But if you are an experienced trekker, you can complete this trek in 2-4 days.
At Lohajung, you will get mobile signals but not so good in strength. During the trek, there are only a few places like Mundoli Village, Tilandi Bugyal Jhandi Top, Brahmatal Top, where you can get the signals but very poor. The mobile operators you will get there are- BSNL, Jio, VI, and Airtel.
The Trekking distance is about 28 km covering Brahmatal Top and following the same route to return. If you chose Daldum/ Dolidhar as returning path, it is around 22 km trekking distance.
There is a small ancient temple of the deity Bhekal Nag, located east side of the lake. Due to this, it is called Bhekaltal or Bekaltal.
The Bekaltal lake is about 6.5 km distance from Lohajung.
Brahmatal is 6 km away from the Bekaltal.
No, but few might be affected by AMS. The itinerary for the Brahmatal Trek is prepared in such a manner that Acute Mountain Sickness will not bother you. A minor problem may occur only.
AMS may occur when you travel more than 2500 m altitude. Our body takes 2-3 days to adapt to higher altitude changes. You should not hike more than 900 meters in a day after 2500 m altitude.
