DeoriaTal Chandrashila trek is our favorite trek during spring. Why? you will find later in this blog. The trek starts from Sari village which is 4 km from the Chamoli-Ukhimath highway. It is around 3km of trekking to Deoriatal. When we have first sight of the lake, it was just wow! The Beautiful small lake comes with a magnetic view of the western Himalayas. Then it comes to the Chaukhamba Peak(7138m) reflection in the lake, which was something special and divinely beautiful.
The trekking distance to Chandrashila from DeoriaTal is around 13km via Rauni Bugyal/ Rohini Bugyal ( 6.5 km From Deoria Tal). The trail goes through the dense forest of Rhododendron and oak trees, and Bugyals, with the majestic view of the upper and lower Himalayas.
The altitude of the Chandrashla Peak is around 3650m. Tungnath temple, which is a 3rd Kedar, is 1.5km below the Chandrashila Peak. The temple is closed during the winter and spring season. According to one such legend, it is the place where Lord Rama meditated after defeating the demon-king Ravana. Another legend says that the Moon-God Chandra spent time here in penance(Source: Wikipedia).
